The school was established in 1965. It was made up of cogon, ubak and bamboo. It was improved by the succeeding barangay officials with the cooperation of the community as well. In 1988, it was closed due to the insurgency problems in the mountains where the school served as the detachment and baseline of tora-tora and other fighting planes that cleared the mountains of Omol, Kakha and Valley of Avocado, Tamlang and Payawpayawan. Evacuation started in November 1988 and the whole barangay was decleared as “No Mans land”.
Classes resumed after the election in September 1989 where Abdon Fundador was elected as Brgy. Captain. The school is 110 km. south of Dumaguete City and 16 km. from the heart of the Municipality of Sta. Catalina. It is located in 5853 square meters lot donated by a civic minded, unmarried woman in the person of Bonifacia Guillepa.
Presently, the school has six (6) buildings with seven (7) classrooms utilized for academic classes with a 232 population, 127 males and 105 females. The school was named after the barangay where it is located. It was formerly called Buenavista Primary School, due to the rapid increase of population it‘s now Buenavista Elementary School.
To facilitate a curriculum that will best cater the needs of our learners and provide a friendly environment for conducive learning.
